The first copy of ‘Sound Before Symbol‘ is in the UK. It has visited SAGE in London, myself in Scotland and is now in Yorkshire in the safe hands of my MUM!

Phonics testing is underway this week. The Schools Minister, Nick Gibb has backed the controversial reading test and insisted that phonics is the most effective way to teach children to read. His belief is based upon the findings of the seven year Clackmannshire study by Johnston and Watson (2005). Final manuscript submitted to SAGE! Everything crossed that it is OK!
The proposal for Sound Before Symbol was passed at this morning’s Editorial Board meeting at Sage Publishing. It has had the provisional ‘thumbs up’ so we can look forward to reading it, hopefully in the not too distant future!
