A myriad of skills may be developed through attendance at a Sounds and Symbols™ session – these include: cognitive, social, emotional, speech, language, literacy, gross motor, fine motor, problem-solving, listening, phonological awareness and in music making – keeping time, sharing, turn-taking, producing sounds, participation and an appreciation of rhythm, pitch, tempo, dynamics, duration and structure.

Music and literacy are inextricably connected. They share many commonalities detailed extensively in my book ‘Sound Before Symbol’.

The musical activities in Sounds and Symbols™ are specially designed to focus upon the skills required for literacy.
